Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
