One teenage youth was found dead only a few days following being wrongly blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The message added: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said property was not stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that Kai had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was arrested at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the family by the time of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that a young adult urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The inquest received testimony from school personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they did not receive that message.

Official Finding

Lead investigator told the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed while investigations proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his intent."
